About

Loren Coleman is a global authority in the field of cryptozoology, with a career spanning over six decades. His initial curiosity about cryptids such as the Abominable Snowman ignited in 1960, eventually expanding to research on mysterious panther sightings and ape reports in the American Midwest. Coleman's investigations have taken him to every U.S. state except Alaska, several Canadian provinces, Mexico, Scotland, and the Virgin Islands, where he has interviewed witnesses and researched folklore on an array of cryptids. An accomplished author, Coleman has penned over 40 books and contributed to an additional 60 through introductions, prefaces, and chapters. His writings also extend to more than 300 articles. He is a regular contributor to media outlets, having appeared on programs like Fox/USA Network’s In Search Of, NBC-TV's Unsolved Mysteries, and History Channel’s In Search of History, among others. He also writes cryptozoology columns for the London-based Fortean Times and the magazine Fate. In 2003, Coleman founded the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland and Bangor, Maine, where he currently serves as Director. Academically, Coleman holds an undergraduate degree in anthropology with a minor in zoology from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He earned a graduate degree in psychiatric social work from Simmons College in Boston and has undertaken doctoral coursework in social anthropology at Brandeis University and sociology at the University of New Hampshire’s Family Research Laboratory.
